Women's Self Defense Workshop

The Women's Resource Center is hosting a free women's self defense workshop that will cover awareness, assertiveness, and physical self defense techniques designed for women's bodies. This interactive workshop will leave participants feeling empowered and capable!

Tribute to Women of African Descent

Tribute to Women of African Descent is a panel, luncheon, and mixer intended to connect the students of BSU and the Black Student Achievement Program with Alums who have journeyed into the work place and have found subtle but important ways to systemically challenge such issues as racism and sexism while also striving to maintain a sense of work/life balance.

LUNAFEST Film Festival

LUNAFEST™, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by the Women's Resource Center, the Intercultural Center, the Health and Wellness Center, and RHA on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:00PM in Hagerty Lounge. This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers.

Ethical Standards of Practice

  1. The WRC is committed to serving all students regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or ideological background in a way that is fair and consistent.
  2. The WRC professional and student staff practice confidentiality by keeping information about who utilizes the WRC’s services private and not disclosing names or other identifying information. 
  3. The Coordinator of Sexual Assault Awareness, Outreach, and Education is able to take confidential reports of sexual assault. The coordinator will offer referrals and services both on campus and in the community to persons discolsing sexual assault.
  4. If a student is at risk for harming him/herself or someone else, confidentiality may be broken to in order to provide appropriate resources or support services.              
  5.  The WRC provides advocacy and support to students. Its services compliment but do not replace the services of the Counseling & Psych services center.
  6.  The WRC staff will not release private information relating to a student without a signed release from the respective student.
  7.    The WRC staff respects and adheres to the guidelines established by the institution regarding the educational materials.
  8. The WRC utilizes institutional funds for the purpose of programming, outreach, education, and research.

 

'Lean In' Viewing Party

Join the Women's Resource Center and the Career Center on Wednesday, November 20th during Community Time for a special event: LEAN IN!

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, wrote an incredible book that challenges us to change the conversation from what women can’t do to what we can do, and serves as a rallying cry for us to all work together to create a more equal world and playing field.

Since her books release six months ago, small peer groups have formed together to discuss gender issues and support each others effort to "lean in." 

Women's Self Defense Workshop

The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, sexuality, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers.

Sister Act: Women of Faith Tell Their Stories

This event will feature women in ministry or leadership roles within the church who will share their stories about what inspired their journey and how they have found their voices, advocated for marginalized populations and challenged oppression within religious institutions.
