The 2009 College Convocation

Dear Members of the Saint Mary's College Community,

The College Convocation is a special annual event at Saint Mary's College when we honor an outstanding Christian Brother or Lasallian Partner. This year's academic ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 29, at 12:45 p.m. in the Chapel. A reception follows the ceremony at the Soda Center where everyone in the community is welcome.

Our guest of honor is an outstanding Lasallian Partner, Gery Short, who is director of the Office of Education for the District of San Francisco. Follow this link to learn more about our honored guest. In his Convocation address, Gery will discuss a partner's journey in living the Lasallian Mission.

The Convocation is the centerpiece of De La Salle Week, which celebrates the life of our founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle. The week of community-building events beginning on April 26 helps to deepen our understanding and appreciation for a Lasallian tradition that is more than 350 years old and currently educates one million students in 82 countries.

I personally invite all students, staff and faculty to attend the Convocation and as many De La Salle Week events as possible. It is a wonderful celebration of our Lasallian tradition, illustrated and enacted in many different ways.

In St. La Salle,
Brother Ronald Gallagher
