How We Help

The Tutorial & Academic Skills Center (TASC) provides free tutoring for all undergraduates in virtually every academic subject taught at Saint Mary's College on a drop-in basis.

Come by our office to see the Tutoring Schedule which is posted in the lobby of FAH 190. If your class schedule conflicts with the tutoring times or if you don't see your class listed, let us know and we will attempt to accommodate your request.

Center for Writing Across the Curriculum "CWAC" is offered on a regular basis in conjuction with the English Department throughout each semester. These drop-in sessions are designed to assist students at any stage of the writing process (i.e. brainstorming, mapping/connecting ideas, formulating thesis statements, outlining, etc.) Click here to view their location and hours.

Studies for International Students (SIS) offers specialized tutoring for SIS courses.

The Stem Center is offered on a regular basis for Math and Science tutoring and assistance throughout each semester. These drop-in sessions support all math and science courses offered at SMC, located in Assumption 200.  Monday through Thursday 12 to 2 pm; 4 to 9 pm and Sunday 6 to 8 pm.

TASC offers a variety of support services and programs that assists students who are experiencing academic difficulties and/or placed on probation.

Information for Students Seeking Tutorial Assistance

Students can drop by FAH (Filippi Academic Hall) 190 at any time during office hours to sign up for tutorial assistance. Students are asked to fill out an application. Depending on which class you are taking and what problems you are experiencing, we will try to find the most beneficial service for your particular needs.

Study Skills Assistance

Individual assistance and workshops are offered for students to complement their study efforts by exploring techniques and strategies in areas such as goal setting, time management, note-taking, test-taking, information processing, memory, and reading comprehension.

Students may take a self assessment screening, Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) to evaluate their study habit strengths and weaknesses. This assessment guides TASC in assisting the student to develop an appropriate academic skills plan while offering techniques that complement the student's individual learning style.

Programs offered through TASC are intended to complement study efforts. We urge you to take advantage of these and other campus resources to maximize your opportunities for success.
