Incoming International Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to Saint Mary's! After having read so much about you, we're excited to have you join us.

Once you have placed your enrollment deposit at Saint Mary's, you can begin the process of applying for your F-1 student visa. The first step is to submit the required documents so that Saint Mary's can issue you a Certificate of Eligibility Form I-20.  Detailed instructions on how to obtain an I-20 are below.

Your Next Steps After Being Accepted:

Confirm your Enrollment at Saint Mary's

Log into your portal and confirm your enrollment.

    Receive your Get Ready Packet

A few weeks after you confirm your enrollment deposit, you will receive your official Saint Mary's login on your portal and by email along with a digital copy of your Get Ready Packet and inserts. This Get Ready Packet will enable you to register for orientation, complete your housing application, and more.

    Visa Application Process

After submitting your enrollment deposit, you will be able to upload the required documents for your I-20 on your applicant portal.

Once you have uploaded the required documents and they are approved, you will be issued an I-20. With the I-20, you will be able to complete the F-1 visa application and arrange a visa appointment at your local US Embassy or Consulate.

Submit your Certificate of Finances Through your Applicant Portal

The U.S. Department of State requires students to prove how they will cover the first year of academic study at Saint Mary's College of California. The college is required to verify your financial resources.

To do so, you must complete the Certification of Finances Form. This form must be completed and signed by the student and any financial sponsor that the student will use to fund their studies at Saint Mary's College of California.  This document is required in order to receive an I-20 from Saint Mary's College.

The estimated costs on the certification of finances form does not cover living expenses for the summer vacation period, or for your transportation costs to and from campus.

As an F-1 student visa holder, students are not authorized to work in the U.S. except under special circumstances. Do not include anticipated campus employment as part of your financial document.

Submit your Bank Statement Through your Applicant Portal

A bank statement or letter issued by a financial institution within 6 months of acceptance for the current term to Saint Mary's College.

Submit a Copy of your Current Passport Through your Applicant Portal

Please make sure the copy is as clear as possible and of a current, valid passport.

Transfer Students Only: F-1 Student SEVIS Transfer Form Through your Applicant Portal

If you are transferring from another U.S. institution, complete the F-1 SEVIS Transfer Form, along with a copy of your current F-1 visa, and a copy of your current I-20.

Submit Medical History Form to the Health and Wellness Center

International students must submit a fully completed Medical History Form to the Health & Wellness Center. The Medical History Forms and Insurance information is listed and accessible via your student applicant portal. This form must include up-to-date immunization information as indicated. No substitute form will be accepted. Additionally, Saint Mary's medical insurance is required for all international students and must be paid in order to register for classes.

Pay your Tuition and Housing Bill

Pay your tuition and other costs via the Business Office.

    Register for and Attend Orientation

Once you have received your official Saint Mary's login, you can register for your Orientation. As an international student, you will attend two orientations, both are mandatory.
