Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Studies Named

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher Sindt, associate dean for the School of Liberal Arts and chair of the Graduate Council, as vice provost for graduate and professional studies, effective March 1, 2011.

As associate dean, Dr. Sindt will continue to oversee graduate and professional programs in creative writing, kinesiology, leadership and performing arts (LEAP). As vice provost for graduate and professional studies, Sindt will continue to serve as chair of the Graduate Council and will assume additional responsibilities in providing strategic and operational support for policies and procedures related to graduate and professional education, including: graduate admissions; the graduate student handbook, website and catalog; coordinating support among career services, housing, counseling, the health center, food services, commencement and the library; advancing the development of and support for hybrid and online education; overseeing the graduate and professional program review process and assisting with WASC institutional accreditation and substantive change processes. Additional duties are detailed in the Faculty Handbook and delegated by the provost.

Dr. Sindt is an associate professor in the English Department. His career at Saint Mary's College began in 2000 as director of the Saint Mary's College MFA Program in Creative Writing. Since that time, Dr. Sindt has taught courses in English, Jan Term and Seminar; published scholarly works of and about poetry, and served the College in numerous governance committees and task forces. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in English from the University of California, Davis, and a B.A. in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles.
