Welcome to Jan Term

Dear Saint Mary’s Students,

Welcome! Jan Term is underway, and we wanted to extend a warm welcome to our new students who successfully navigated the COVID testing process and moved into the residence halls for the first time over the weekend. And, we look forward to welcoming home our returning students on campus both this week and Spring semester. We are so excited to have you back! We have missed you.

There is still limited housing available on campus this Spring if you’re interested. Applying for housing is easy. You can change your mind and opt-out without a penalty until February 4, 2021.

In addition to virtual activities, we are developing a range of fun programs on campus, and student services offices will be available to assist you if you have any questions. The best way to contact student services or other offices on campus is by phone or email. You can locate this information on our website. Staff and faculty are available to answer your questions and schedule virtual meetings to offer support and guidance. We are here for you!

I want to confirm that you are aware of the most recent health order from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for those living in the residence halls. The CDPH announced that a Regional Stay at Home order would be in effect until at least January 8, 2021, though it is likely to be extended depending on the health circumstances.

On-campus student residents, here are some additional key points:

  • The order still allows for necessary trips out of your primary residence (e.g., grocery store trip, take-out/drive-thru food pick-up, going for a run for exercise);
  • Students can leave their residence hall rooms but are restricted from gathering with others even outdoors;
  • Student-athletes can continue planned activities according to your established health protocols for use of facilities and participation.

For students living off-campus, there may be a different impact:

  • The order still allows for necessary trips out of your primary residence (e.g., grocery store trip, take-out/drive-through food pick-up, going for a run for exercise);
  • Please be aware of the restriction on gatherings with others outside of your household (no indoor/outdoor dining at restaurants or service at bars);
  • Student-athletes can continue planned activities according to your established health protocols for use of facilities and participation;
  • Individuals should not be hosting any gatherings (indoors or outdoors) with others who live in different apartments or houses.

If you are looking for additional information about hours for College services available during Jan Term, you can review the Campus Services site. I recommend bookmarking this page as it is updated regularly in compliance with State and County health and safety protocols. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have additional questions.

We again thank you for continued vigilance in wearing your facial coverings, maintaining at least 6-feet of distance from others, and doing your Daily Health Screenings if you live on or come to campus.

By working together, we hope to keep our community safe.
