Witnessing Citizenship

Saint Mary's students watch more than 1,000 new Americans take the oath of citizenship.

Saint Mary’s students studying the Bay Area immigrant experience saw the subject come to life as they watched more than 1,000 new Americans take the citizenship oath at San Francisco’s Masonic Auditorium on Jan. 23. The students from Ann McDevitt Miller’s “Make Yourself at Home” class explored U.S. immigration law, read novels by and about California immigrants and traveled to different ethnic communities. Miller’s course was held during January Term, when students study one topic in depth.
