Sharon Sobotta, M.S.

Director of the Women's Resource Center

Sharon develops programming for the WRC that fits the needs of the students with a focus on social injustice. She empowers students to recognize and challenge issues such as sexism, racism, ethnocentrism, classism, socialized gender roles, homophobia, and other forms of oppression.

Sharon collaborates with staff and faculty on campus to provide learning experiences and training opportunities to support causes affecting young women and men. She provides advocacy and support regarding gender and race related topics, challenges, and identity issues. She partners with students to help them explore solutions and ongoing campus resources for the issues they are facing. As an educator, she finds it important to plant a seed and nurture/encourage students along the way.

Sharon began her career at Saint Mary's College in September, 2002 as the Coordinator of Sexual Assault Awareness. She has been in her current role as the Director of the Women's Resource Center for many years. She currently holds a Master of Science degree.

Sharon has a passion for helping people find their voice and making space for all voices to be heard. This translates well into her work at the college. She has found that when you can reach both the mind and the heart, you have a real potential to bring about positive change.

Sharon is also a member of the unpaid staff at KPFA, where she serves as a field reporter, a weekend anchor for the news department and as a producer for the Women's Magazine. She has had the pleasure of interviewing Peter and Paul from the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, Eddy Fisher from OneRepublic, and the Today Show super fan Lennie, who showed up on the set everyday for two decades. However, the most important interview she has ever done was with Wanda Johnson, the mother of the late Oscar Grant. or 925-631-4171

Additionally, she coordinates the 24 hour CARE line and supports the Student Coalition Against Rape (SCAR).

Erin came to Saint Mary's College in February, 2017 with 20 years' experience. She is passionate about providing strength-based counseling and advocacy to students struggling with unhealthy relationships or the affects of being sexually assaulted.  For 14 years she worked as a Victim/Witness Advocate with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Throughout her career, Erin has facilitated trainings to service providers and first responders at various local agencies and police departments. She participated on a victim advocacy panel at a conference on hate crimes at UC Hastings School of Law. Erin holds a dual bachelor degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice Administration from Cal State University Hayward (East Bay) and a Master's degree in Social Work from San Jose State University.
