Orientation is the foundation for your experience at Saint Mary's College of California.

First-Year Student Orientation

During your one-day orientation session our faculty, staff and current students share information and experiences about how to successfully transition into the Saint Mary’s community. Those students needing to fulfill any placement requirements will have to complete them prior to orientation.

Students and families break into two separate programs, each tailored to address their specific needs. You will all become better acquainted with campus resources and have opportunities to discuss the many facets of college life.

All fall orientation programs begin at 9am, with check-in and continental breakfast available at 8am.

*Includes an optional guest program in Spanish

Parent and Family Program

The continued involvement of parent and family members is crucial to the success of college students. Each new student is encouraged to bring up to three family members to participate in the Parent and Family Program during New Student Orientation, which will allow families to learn about the various resources available in the campus community, meet College staff, and connect with parents of other new students. Family members should attend the same New Student Orientation session as their student and the schedule can be found here

What to Bring:

  • Student ID number
  • SMC username (example: abc3@stmarys-ca.edu) and password. Can't find yours? Call IT Services at (925) 631-4266 (Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., PST)
  • Water bottle 
  • Sweater or light jacket for air conditioned rooms

Registration is only available to those students who have paid a deposit and received their Saint Mary's username and password.
