Strategic Planning Fundamentals

Most institutions are experiencing an accelerated pace of change. Therefore, managers and their departments must think ahead, determine priorities, and implement strategies to ensure their ongoing success. Strategic planning is a proactive way to identify a viable future direction for your department and develop a road map for getting there. You won’t be an expert in strategic planning by the end of this program, but you will leave with a good grasp of what strategic planning involves, including some basic methodologies and practical suggestions for using them. In this program participants will:

  • Understand what strategic planning is and how it can be useful for your department
  • Recognize key building blocks of a strategic plan
  • Review guidelines for conducting a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
  • Discuss how to align departmental strategic planning efforts with the College’s new strategic plan
