The following courses are required for students pursuing an Anthropology Degree.

The Anthropology major comprises 13 lower and upper-division courses. Students are exposed to all four of the traditional sub-disciplines of anthropology while having the choice of majoring in anthropology or anthropology with an archaeology concentration.

A grade of C- or higher is required for all coursework to count toward the major or minor. In addition, the minimum acceptable grade of C for the capstone courses Anthropology 130: Anthropological Theory and Anthropology 132: Research Methods.

The Anthropology Major (13 Credits Total)

Lower Division 

  • Anthropology 1: Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 5: Introduction to Archaeology; and
  • Biology 7: Introduction to Biological Anthropology (The course description is included in the School of Science Biology listings). 

Upper Division 

  • Anthropology 100: Principles of Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 105: Linguistic Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 121: World Cultures;
  • Anthropology 130: Anthropological Theory; 
  • Anthropology 132: Research Methods; and 
  • Five electives. 

The Anthropology Major, Archaeology Concentration (13.5 Credits Total)

Lower Division 

  • Anthropology 001: Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 005: Introduction to Archaeology;
  • Biology 007: Introduction to Biological Anthropology (The course description is included in the School of Science Biology listings.); and 
  • Two .25 credit Anth 011 Conservation of Materials Archaeology labs. 

Upper Division 

  • Anthropology 100: Principles of Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 105: Linguistic Anthropology;
  • Anthropology 121: World Cultures;
  • Anthropology 127: Topics in Archaeology; 
  • Anthropology 129: World Prehistory 
  • Anthropology 130: Anthropological Theory;
