Susie Miller Reid, Director
M. Susan “Susie” Reid, MA, Linguistics is the Director of the Center for International Programs at Saint Mary’s College of California and oversees the international activities related to Study Abroad and International Student Services for the campus. Susie has been in the field of international education for over 30 years, having served as Director at both UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz campuses for 20 years and as a teacher and coordinator at Kuwait University for 5 years. She has lived in Brazil and Kuwait and has traveled to over 25 countries abroad visiting all continents, except Australia. Furthermore, she has given over 25 presentations at professional conferences and educational institutions and served as the Chair of the Program Administration section of TESOL and the ATESL Chair for NAFSA. Finally, She has trained teachers in Egypt and has developed and directed a number of professional development programs for government officials, professionals and students abroad.
Maria D. Flores, Associate Director
Maria D. Flores is the Associate Director of the Center for International Programs and is responsible for helping students include study abroad as part of their SMC education. She is a "home grown" State-of-California-kind-of-gal. She received her B.A. in German Studies and Comparative Literature from the Universiy of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As an undergraduate, she participated in the UC/Education Abroad Program (EAP) at the Georg-August Universität Göttingen in Germany and received the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) Undergraduate Scholarship. Maria completed her M.A. studies at Stanford University with the submission of her monograph "Fostering Europeanness through Higher Education Student Mobility: Reflections of ERASMUS Programme Participants." She has visited over 15 countries (and counting!) and is fluent in Spanish and German. She has worked with study abroad students for almost a decade and takes pride in knowing she helped them embark on a life changing journey.
