Mark Your Calendars: SMC’s Lasallian Heritage Days, April 17–28

A message to the Saint Mary’s Community

by Brother Thomas Jones, FSC, Interim President | March 1, 2024

SMC’s Lasallian Heritage Days, which take place April 17 through April 28, draw our attention to the rich heritage we as a Lasallian community have received from the extraordinary life, spirituality, and educational vision of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. I hope you will join me as we celebrate this occasion. I encourage you to visit our Lasallian Heritage Days website, where you will find additional information and a list of scheduled events and activities.

Saint La Salle devoted his life to making society a place that acknowledges a person’s right to fullness of life as promised by God. He shared this quality with other iconic figures whose lives have left a legacy that highlights the value and dignity of the person, the shared humanity that calls us to the creation of inclusive communities, and attention to those most in need in our society.

As inheritors of the Lasallian story, we students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Brothers at Saint Mary’s are grateful for both the rich 345-year history we celebrate and for our membership in the Lasallian family. That family now serves the diverse educational needs of more than a million students in more than 80 countries around the world.

This year our Academic Convocation, a signature event during Lasallian Heritage Days, will be held on Wednesday, April 24. This event provides an opportunity for us to gather as a Lasallian community devoted to the enrichment and transformation of lives through higher education. Please mark your calendars and look for a follow-up message soon with insight into this year’s Academic Convocation honoree and speaker.

I invite you to join me during SMC Lasallian Heritage Days as we celebrate our rich Lasallian Catholic heritage in a spirit of gratitude for the gifts we have received and share as leaders in the international family of Lasallian educational communities.

Sincerely,

Brother Thomas Jones, FSC

Interim President
