Brother Stan Sobczyk Fills Top Advancement Post

Brother Stanislaus Sobczyk, FSC, who held several posts at Saint Mary's College in the 1990s, returned to the College in July as interim vice president for advancement.

Brother Stan served as president of Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee for the past six years. During his tenure there, he helped develop a sound financial base for the university, directing a number of physical improvements and construction of new facilities, and helping to raise scholarship monies.

"Brother Stan brings a wealth of experience to this position," said Saint Mary's President Brother Ron Gallagher, FSC. "In his years as president of Christian Brothers University, CBU's fundraising efforts yielded record results."

At Saint Mary's, Brother Stan taught at the School of Education from 1990 to 1993 and served as assistant to the president from 1994 to 1998. He also coordinated Catholic Education and Outreach Programs for the School of Education.

"To return to Saint Mary's is an absolute delight," says Brother Stan. "I have fond memories of my years here, and I look forward to making a contribution to Brother Ron's administration."

A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Brother Stan received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and theology from Christian Brothers University in 1966, a master's degree in geography from St. Louis University in 1972, a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Memphis in 1975, and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of San Francisco in 1986. He has been a De La Salle Christain Brother since 1963.
