Don't Get Caught - Watch Out For Phishing Attacks

December 9, 2015

IT Services has received recent reports of phishing attempts.  We appreciate that you all are becoming more wary of these types of attacks.

Please be advised that we will never send out email notices with a link that asks for your user ID or password.  Watch for things like spelling, matching the sender's name with the corresponding email address, e.g. From:  stmarys-ca.edu web team (rtill@umc.com).  A Saint Mary's account will come from our domain (the part after the @), not something else.  We will not ask you to click on a link to confirm your account.  Do not open attachments if you aren't sure.

If you receive an email that looks like it might be suspicious, but you aren't sure, give us a call at the IT Service Desk (925) 631-4266 and we will answer any questions.
