The U.S. Rowing Association invited two women's crew members to compete at the national level this summer. Johanna Timmer '09 was a finalist for a slot on the U.S. under-23 four-person boat at the World Championships in Germany in July, while Jacqui Lindo '11 participated at the Women's National Team Freshman Camp in June at Cornell University.

The men's basketball team will participate in the 2008 Anaheim Classic over Thanksgiving Weekend. In the tournament on Nov. 27–30, the Gaels will face tough opponents from a field that includes 2008 NCAA tournament teams Baylor and CSU Fullerton and perennial powers Wake Forest, Arizona State and UNC-Charlotte.

Basketball's Todd Golden '08 was named to the Jewish Sports Review 2008 All-America Team. The Review chose a first team and honorable mention squad, and Golden earned a spot on the first team.

Many winter and spring sports enjoyed successful seasons. Four coaches were named WCC Coach of the Year, 13 athletes were selected for First Team All-Conference Awards and 17 others received various conference and national honors. Five Gael teams finished second in conference play, two teams were selected to compete in the NCAA championships, one team competed in the national semifinals and four were consistently ranked nationally. Junior shortstop Joel Staples was drafted by the Florida Marlins. He is forgoing his senior season and reported to Jupiter, Fla. to play for the Gulf Coast Marlins, the Marlins' rookie league affiliate.
