Join Student Life in Saying Farewell to Cesar Ramos!

June 20, 2022

Please join us on Monday, June 27 from 4pm-6pm at the 1928 Pub to celebrate Dr. Cesar Ramos! As you may know, Dr. Ramos has recently accepted a position as Director of the Cross-Cultural Center at UC Irvine and will be departing Saint Mary's at the end of this month. Not only does he get to be closer to his parents (& Dodger Stadium), this wonderful opportunity affords Dr. Ramos the opportunity to develop his own team and work in a dynamic Center, advocating for students, fighting for equitable experiences, and expanding a facility that he can design.

A 2009 graduate from Saint Mary's, Dr. Ramos has been a valuable member of the Student Life team since his graduation. First serving in some critical interim positions and then being hired onto the Intercultural Center team, Dr. Ramos has always put student advocacy at the center of his work. In 2018, he was promoted to the Director of Student Involvement & Leadership. In his time as Director, Dr. Ramos successfully shifted programming to online platforms, modernized workflows within the department, and re-established large campus, student-driven programming. Specifically, Dr. Ramos has invested in helping student organizations successfully navigate challenging campus processes through the development of the Presence software, advised and executed the re-imagined CAB Carnival (drawing over 900 students this year!), established the Senior Week of events, and instituted several student leadership programs. In addition, Dr. Ramos has advised countless Cultural Nights, travelled with students to conferences, and has constantly advocated for student access and involvement. Dr. Ramos has served as a former Chair of the Staff Council and has served as a Resident Director, living on campus and mentoring first year men in Mitty/Justin Halls.

As a Saint Mary's product, Dr. Ramos has lived the Lasallian mission and has truly blessed the campus with his hard-work, critical eye, and support of our students. Along with his wife, Ariana, Cesar has been a steady and successful presence, advocating and supporting students at every step of his journey. The Division of Student Life will miss his steady work, dry humor, and passion for student success. Though he departs, we know he will be back as an alum and part of our community!

We look forward to seeing you on June 27 to bid him congrats!
