New Book by Prof. Patrizia Longo Explores Political Thought Through Contemporary Voices

October 27, 2019

In January 2018, Professor of Politics Patrizia Longo published Justice Unbound: Voices of Justice for the 21st Century. Many introductions to political philosophy and theory exclude discussions of race, and numerous anthologies exclude the voices of nonwhite authors—ignoring issues of racism, sexism, abolitionism, colonialism, imperialism, and white supremacy. Longo’s work examines political theory through the lens of these key concerns, offering case studies that encourage students to apply their theoretical understandings of justice to real world issues.

Longo teaches courses in Saint Mary’s Departments of Politics and Women and Gender Studies. Her academic research interests include animal rights, politics and race, food politics, politics and gender, and contemporary democratic theory.
