Performing Arts Department Salutes Music Professor Marty Rokeach
Saint Mary’s Performing Arts faculty, staff, and SMC community members gathered to acknowledge Music Professor Marty Rokeach during his retirement celebration in the LeFevre Theater on Dec. 6.
A celebrated composer, Rokeach was a member of the Performing Arts Department since 1984—in 1999, he was named Saint Mary's College Professor of the Year. Rokeach has written music for orchestra, wind symphony, voice, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and film. His works are widely published, have earned honors in fourteen national and international competitions and have been performed in more than twenty foreign countries. The Oakland Symphony performed a world premiere piccolo concerto composed by Rokeach in March 2016. In one of several recognitions of Rokeach, Performing Arts faculty and staff assembled on the stairs of Syufy Hall to perform a tribute to the accomplished music professor.
