USA Today Includes Saint Mary's Among Nation's Top 20 Colleges Committed to Community Service

July 29, 2011

An article in USA Today lists Saint Mary's among the top 20 colleges in the nation with a commitment to community engagement. While brief, the widely distributed story "The 20 colleges most committed to community service" notes that SMC "receives a goodly amount of recognition for its dedication to the Lasallian Approach to education" and that community service forms an integral cornerstone of coursework offered at the College.

It is because of Saint Mary's commitment to social justice, community service and civic engagement that it recently received national recognition as a Presidential Award finalist on the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). The College was one of 17 institutions of higher education from across the nation considered for a Presidential Award, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to community service.

The USA Today article was produced in collaboration with Online Colleges, which offers overviews of schools with online programs.
