The Media Production major prepares students for careers as dynamic multimedia creators in any discipline or field. Majors will experience : 

  • technical skill building 
  • ethics-based media literacy and criticism
  • storytelling across mediums 
  • client-based and community-focused projects
  • an on-campus media production internship 

The Media Production major embraces the interdisciplinarity of a Liberal Arts education. Majors develop individualized degree pathways by selecting elective production and studies courses spread across fifteen different majors and programs. This broad range of elective choices allow majors to develop emphases according to their personal passions and provide ample opportunity for pursuing industry-friendly double-majors and minors.

The major in Media Production is for students who wish to study and practice the interdisciplinary craft of creating digital audiovisual and multimedia works.

Learning Outcomes

Assemble raw footage, audio, and graphics into compelling visual narratives for film, advertising, corporate communications, or social platforms.

Videographer / Cinematographer
Plan and execute camera work, lighting, and shot design for events, creative projects, and commercial shoots.

Social Media Content Creator / Digital Content Producer
Develop short-form video, audio, and visual campaigns for brands, nonprofits, or community organizations across platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Sound Designer / Audio Engineer
Record, edit, and mix dialogue, music, and sound effects for film, podcasts, games, advertising, live events, or broadcast.

Podcaster / Audio Producer
Create narrative or interview-based audio series, manage scheduling and scripting, and shape the editorial sound of a show.

Multimedia Producer
Coordinate full media projects — video, web, graphics, audio — for clients, campaigns, sports, or campus/community media outlets.

Broadcast / Streaming Engineer
Manage the technical side of live or recorded production, including cameras, audio routing, lighting setups, and studio/remote broadcast systems.

Digital Marketing / Content Strategist
Plan and deliver media campaigns, track audience engagement, and align creative messaging with organizational goals for companies, nonprofits, or political/social causes.

Sports Media / Sports Journalist
Produce game footage, highlight reels, athlete profiles, and live commentary packages for teams, schools, and sports networks.
