COVID-19 Update: Booster Shots Now Available For All

November 22, 2021

Wondering if you are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot? Last week, the state of California issued updated guidance that now allows all people ages 18 and older to receive a booster shot after a set period of time has passed since your last vaccine dose. Here are a few guidelines to follow if you would like to schedule yours.

  • Anyone interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot may schedule an appointment through the state’s MyTurn app or website. You may also schedule a booster appointment through Contra Costa Health Services by visiting its online portal or calling 1-833-829-2626. Local pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens also offer booster shot appointments and can in many cases offer same-day or next-day availability.

  • The only criteria for eligibility is timing. If you have received two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, you are eligible for a booster if it has been at least six months since receiving the second dose. If you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, you are eligible to receive a booster if at least two months have passed.

  • You may receive a booster dose of any of the three vaccines, regardless of which one you received initially.
