COVID-19 Update: Masking Guidance for Jan Term

December 13, 2021

Dear Saint Mary's Community,

A return to campus for the fall semester presented many challenges, but thanks to your efforts, we have been able to come together as a community to keep each other as safe as possible from COVID-19. Those efforts have included following the Contra Costa County indoor mask mandate, which helped mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

As the calendar turns to 2022 and we continue our transition to a new normal for in-classroom instruction, we want to be mindful of the continued presence of COVID-19, as well as the ongoing cold and flu season. To do that, Saint Mary’s will continue to observe an indoor mask mandate throughout the Jan Term session. This mandate remains in line with the current Contra Costa County requirement for indoor masking, which requires all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask in public indoor spaces. Removal of face coverings while actively eating or drinking remains acceptable, and Saint Mary’s will continue to follow the latest Contra Costa County Health Order when it comes to masking guidance.

As previously communicated, to comply with the SMC Vaccination Requirement, all students must verify their vaccination status or obtain a religious or medical exemption through the Vaccine Portal to come to campus in January. Booster shots are also highly encouraged but are not mandatory at this time. To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment or booster shot, visit the state’s MyTurn app or website. You may also schedule an appointment through Contra Costa Health Services by visiting its online portal or calling 1-833-829-2626. Local pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens also offer booster shot appointments.

Remember to stay safe during the holiday season, and thank you for helping to keep our Saint Mary’s community healthy!

In community,
