Our Single Subject Credential is a distinctive program because of its focus on social justice teaching, critical thinking, and working collaboratively with communities and schools to investigate, analyze, and reflect on best practices.

Program highlights include:

  • 35-unit curriculum aligned with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession 
  • Single Subject Teaching Credential in 8 subjects
  • One-year full-time program; part-time option available
  • Admission twice a year, Summer term and January term
  • Courses held in the late afternoon and evening to accommodate student teaching and working education professionals
  • Program's emphasis in critical pedagogy, restorative justice, and culturally responsive teaching
  • Candidates are intern-ready after completing their first full-time semester of study
  • Field experience and student teaching that goes beyond state requirements
  • Supervised teaching placements in diverse settings with a focus on urban education
  • You learn with a cohort of fellow students throughout the entire program
