REQUIRED | Tier I & Tier II Workshops

The GUIDE (Tier I) workshop and Tier II workshops are intended to generate inclusive community among SMC faculty and staff.

What is GUIDE (Tier I)?

GUIDE – Gaels Uniting for Inclusion and Diversity through Education (Tier I) – is SMC’s campus-wide workshop for all employees.

The GUIDE (Tier I) workshop will be offered multiple times throughout the calendar year. It is currently being developed by a small group of faculty and staff.

What are Tier II workshops?

Tier II is what comes AFTER faculty and staff have completed the GUIDE (Tier I) requirement. The Tier II workshops, facilitated by faculty and staff, address the overarching theme to critically examine and interrogate how systems of power and oppression affect participants, their daily experiences, and interactions with others, as well as how they impact the SMC community and beyond. See below for current offerings.

Who needs to participate in Tier II workshops?

All faculty are required to complete at least 4.5 hours every three years. There are three ways to participate and/or be in compliance: (1) attend Tier II workshops, (2) develop and facilitate a Tier II workshop, or (3) petition participation in off-campus diversity workshops.

When will the Tier II workshops be offered?

See fall and spring offerings (click here). More offerings coming soon.
