Board of Trustees Welcomes New Chair, Secretary and Members

Saint Mary’s Board of Trustees recently elected and welcomed two new senior officers and four new members. Esteemed business leader Kevin Nagle begins a two-year term as board chairperson, and finance executive Kevin “Casey” Eichler will serve over the next two years as the new board secretary. Their term in office began July 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2019. The board also features four dynamic new members, including celebrated Lasallian educator Brother Gustavo Ramirez Barba, FSC, Ed.D., M.A. ’94, business executives Kevin Flynn ’86 and Mark Madgett ’83, and attorney Joseph Motta ’84. The new members were elected to serve three-year terms, which run from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020.

  • Kevin Nagle is chairman, CEO, and owner of Sac Soccer & Entertainment Holdings, the parent company of the Sacramento Republic FC professional soccer team, and is leading the efforts to bring Major League Soccer (MLS) to Sacramento. He is also one of the largest owners of the Sacramento Kings NBA team and sits on the King’s executive board. Previously, Mr. Nagle was the co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Envision Pharmaceutical Holdings, Inc, a $5-billion-dollar prescription benefit management company. His business interests include real estate development, shopping malls and other investments. Nagle was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2014 and elected chair in 2017.
     
  • Kevin “Casey” Eichler is the former president and CFO of Ultra Clean Technology (Nasdaq: UCTT), a leading developer and supplier of critical subsystems for the semiconductor capital equipment, medical, research, and energy industries with revenue in 2014 of $514 million. His background includes public, private and startup companies and senior leadership and financial management roles with firms such as Credence Systems, MarketTools, and MIPS. His experience also includes management positions with the technology firms Visigenic Software, NeXT Software and Microsoft. He was elected to the SMC Board of Trustees in 2015 and elected secretary to the Board in 2017.
     
  • Brother Gustavo Ramirez Barba, FSC, Ed.D., MA ’94 was appointed General Councilor for Association and Mission to serve the Institute of the Christian Brothers in Rome in 2015. A committed educator, his ministry as a Brother includes being an elementary and high school teacher; principal; Director of Education for the District of North Mexico; Academic Vice President and President of La Salle University at Ciudad Obregon, in Mexico; Secretary of Lasallian Mission for the Lasallian Region of Latin America; and Visitor of North America. An in-demand keynote speaker, lecturer, and retreat master, in 2012, he received an honorary doctoral degree as the guest of honor at Saint Mary’s College of California’s annual De La Salle Week Convocation. Brother Gustavo was elected to the SMC Board of Trustees in 2017.
     
  • Kevin Flynn ’86 has been with Ernst & Young since 1986 when he joined as a member of the audit staff. He transferred to the tax group in 1988, and was promoted to partner in 1998. He has advised clients in a variety of industries, including: Asset Management, Banking, Technology, Biotech, and Consumer Products. Flynn currently leads the Financial Services practice in the West across all Ernst & Young services lines. In this role he focuses on heading-up the development and implementation of the market segment growth strategy, assisting and coordinating marketing activities to drive client relationship building, driving development and recruitment efforts and fostering meaningful local community-based activities and events. Flynn was elected to the SMC Board of Trustees in 2017.
     
  • Mark Madgett ’83 is a senior vice president at New York Life Insurance Company, and a member of the company’s executive management committee, which assists the CEO in establishing company policy. Madgett leads New York Life’s Career Agency distribution system, which comprises approximately 12,000 agents affiliated with 117 general offices across the country. He also oversees business units that provide strategy and support for the field force. He joined New York Life as an agent in 1986, entered management in 1992, and became managing partner of the Seattle General Office in 1998, which grew over two decades to become one of the largest agencies in the company. Madgett was elected to the SMC Board of Trustees in 2017.
     
  • Joseph A. Motta ’84 is an attorney and co-owner of the firm Rueb and Motta, PLC in Concord. The firm focuses on national mass tort litigation, injury litigation, and some criminal and business matters. He received his juris doctorate at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in 1987. He started his career as a law clerk and then as a deputy with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, where he was a prosecutor for 17 years. Motta’s prosecution cases involved felony trials and sexual assault and homicide teams. He went on to supervise domestic violence\sexual assault teams, where he fought for battered women and children, as well as implemented the Zero Tolerance Policy Against Domestic Violence in Contra Costa County. Motta was elected to the SMC Board of Trustees in 2017.
