Easter Blessings

A message to the Saint Mary's Community

by Brother Thomas Jones, FSC, Interim President | March 25, 2024

Christians around the world will soon commemorate the central event of their faith: the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As Easter is celebrated in Christian families throughout the world, Jewish communities will gather to tell the Passover story of liberation and freedom from oppression. Likewise, Muslims prepare in this Holy Season of Ramadan for Eid al-Fitr, the festival that follows a month of fasting and spiritual contemplation.

Each of these celebrations provides families with opportunities to tell the ancient stories that anchor and give life to their faith. With food, rituals, and music, children are instructed in the religious beliefs and practices that are passed from one generation to the next.

This year, as devastation and heartbreak impact so many of our brothers and sisters whose lives are affected by acts of violence and abuse of powerful governments, we are invited not only to celebrate the rich traditions of Holy Week, Easter, Passover, Ramadan, and Eid a-Fitr, but to pray for human rights and recognition of each person as a child of God.

I wish each of you a blessed Holy Week, a joyful Easter, a peaceful Passover, a holy Ramadan, and a happy Holi.

With warm regards,

Brother Thomas Jones, FSC
