Please Join Me in Celebrating “Giving Tuesday”

A message to the Saint Mary's Community

by Brother Thomas Jones, FSC, Interim President | November 28, 2023

As Thanksgiving gatherings with family and friends settle into our memories, my wish for you is that the warmth of the celebration and a lasting spirit of gratitude fill your lives with peace.

Pausing for a few days from busy routines and academic responsibilities can provide a much-needed perspective on what is important in our lives. For me, sitting around a table with family in Sonoma on Thanksgiving Day reminded me of so many blessings for which I am grateful.

Today, November 28, is known throughout the country as “Giving Tuesday” and the “National Day of Giving.” It is not by accident that this special day is set when our minds and hearts have been recently focused on gratitude. This year Saint Mary’s will join others in marking the day with opportunities to give to a cause on campus that has special meaning for you.

This approach to giving is slightly different from what we have done in the past, and I believe it provides an opportunity for each of us to reflect on the programs and activities that we most value in our community. You may, for example, consider giving to the High Potential Program as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, to the Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action (CILSA), to our scholarship programs, to Athletics, or to any number of other causes or programs. You can help support these programs by engaging with posts on our social media platforms throughout the day.

You can donate by visiting our Giving Tuesday website, which will also allow you to track our incoming donation tally or learn how donations make a positive difference in the lives of students.

Saint Mary’s benefits each and every day from your generous donation of time and talent. Please know how deeply I appreciate the many contributions you make to our community and our mission.

Warmly,

Brother Thomas Jones, FSC
