Politics Senior Leora Mosman to Work for Refugee Rights in Washington D.C. After Graduation

March 12, 2018

Next year I will be working as the Protection Counselor at the Washington D.C. Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, a year-long position that I was offered through the Loretto Program (www.lorettovolunteers.org). My primary responsibility in this role will be to provide assistance to asylum-seekers and refugees who are in the United States, many of whom call from within detention facilities. Another responsibility will be to track trends in issues involving refugees, both in the United States and in home countries, to better inform the UNHCR on the conditions and challenges faced by these individuals. I am so excited for the opportunity to work with this office and gain a better understanding for how political systems work and what can be done to uplift the most vulnerable.
