Prayers requested for Professor Hisham Ahmed, R.I.P.

Dear Saint Mary’s Community Members,  

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I inform you that Professor Hisham Ahmed, Department of Politics, passed away Sunday evening, July 7, surrounded by family and friends, after a long illness.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Amneh, and their two children, Noor and Ahmed.  

Dr. Ahmed came to Saint Mary’s College in 2006 and was a renowned scholar of Middle East Politics and International Relations and a beloved professor and colleague.  He was a prolific author of scholarly books and articles in English and Arabic and was often featured in television and radio interviews about Palestinian and Middle East affairs.  In 2017-18, he was honored with the College’s Outstanding Scholar Award.  He was an accomplished and respected teacher and contributed a great deal of leadership and service to Saint Mary’s in his 13 years at the College as well. 

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, July 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Lowry Masjid (Islamic Society of East Bay) 33330 Peace Terrace, Fremont, CA 94555 followed by a burial service at Five Pillars Farm Islamic Cemetery, 1761 Laughlin Rd., Livermore, CA 94551.
