Saint Mary's College of California to Host Prominent Media, Business and Entertainment Leaders

MORAGA, CA (Oct. 14, 2003) - Leaders in the fields of media, business and entertainment will discuss topics including current events in Iraq, the influence of corporate media and the role of Bay Area businesses in shaping the future of movie production during upcoming presentations hosted by Saint Mary's College of California.

The presidents of Lucasfilm companies, Turner Pictures and Dolby Laboratories will join prominent journalists and senior executives from Apple Computer, Hewlett Packard and many other companies during "Media and Communication Weeks," held October 27-31 and November 3-7 at Saint Mary's College.

In cooperation with the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Saint Mary's College is establishing an executive education program in American media and communication management. During the two-week program, 33 international students from the University of St. Gallen will visit key Bay Area companies and attend events and courses held on the Moraga campus of Saint Mary's College.

Among the presentations open to the public and held at the Soda Activity Center of Saint Mary's College:

* "The U.S. & Iraq" with Middle East news correspondents Deborah Amos and Rick Davis on Tuesday, November 4, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Amos reports on Iraq for ABC News, is a former foreign correspondent for National Public Radio and the author of "Lines in the Sand: Desert Storm and the Remaking of the Arab World" (1992). Davis is an NBC news correspondent who has reported from 80 countries, including Beirut and Jordan. The two will discuss current events in Iraq and the role of the national news media.

* "Hollywood and the American Dream" - Wednesday, November 5, 7:00-9:00 p.m. A panel of representatives from Bay Area companies, including Industrial Light and Magic and Pixar Studios, will join creative professionals from Hollywood to discuss the rise of digital technologies that are allowing Bay Area companies to play an active role in shaping the future of entertainment.

* "Big Media" with Robert Wussler and Rob Wussler on Thursday, November 6, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Robert Wussler - president of Turner Pictures, co-founder of CNN and former president of CBS and CBS Sports - and his son Rob Wussler, vice president of Midwest Sales for NBC Enterprises, will share insights on the hegemony and strategies of big American media.

"Media & Communications Weeks" is hosted by Saint Mary's College School of Economics and Business Administration, the Disney Forum at Saint Mary's and St. Gallen University of Switzerland.

The Executive MBA in Media and Communication offered by the University of St. Gallen is the world's first and only full-time English language MBA program integrating general management theory with a practical media specialization.
