SMC Politics students attend the Sacramento Legislative Seminar
In February 2019, students with an interest in public policy making had an amazing opportunity to attend the annual Sacramento Legislative Seminar. The Politics department sent a group of five students to participate in this important event: Emily Conway, Angelique Nevarez, John Mancini, Maile Shelley, and Lauren Scott with Assistant Professor Zahra Ahmed supervising the group. This 3-day workshop series included talks with Chiefs of Staff, a pizza social with other student attendees from across the U.S., chats with media consultants and lobbyists, discussions with students in the Capital Fellows Program, and a keynote speech by California’s first female elected Lt. Governor, Eleni Kounalakis. This collaborative event was organized by St. Mary’s College, USC, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Fresno, and Loyola Marymount University. St. Mary’s College participation was generously supported by the School of Liberal Arts.
