Taycee Wedin of the Saint Mary's Women's Basketball team has been selected to participate in the State Farm College Slam 3-Point Championships, becoming the first Gael ever to compete in the event.

The competition will take place at the Hoops House, located at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston on Thursday, March 30, at 4:30 p.m. PDT. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

"I am feeling so excited and thankful to be invited to the College Slam 3-Point Contest," Wedin said after receiving her invitation. "I am really looking forward to being able to compete with the best shooters in the country and to be in such a cool environment. I also want to thank everyone who created the promotional highlight videos of me and everyone on social media who supported me."

One of the Top Three Three-Point Shooters in NCAA Women’s Basketball History

Wedin is one of the top three-point shooters NCAA Women's Basketball history. She is one of just 13 players all time—and three active—to make more than 400 three-pointers in their career. She is SMC's and the WCC's all-time leader in career threes made (407) and in a season (106).

A native of Milwaukie, Oregon, Wedin is currently a graduate student in management and technology. She finished her Saint Mary's career this season with 1,740 points, putting her fifth all-time in program history and just two points behind fourth-place Cheree Tappin. Wedin's 143 games played and 3,986 minutes logged are second all-time in program history behind her former teammate Madeline Holland. And Wedin's 42 percent career three-point percentage is second all-time in program history. She is the best of any player with over 200 attempts at Saint Mary's.

Wedin is also the program's all-time leader in career free-throw percentage, at 87.2 percent. This season she was named to the WCC All-Academic Team with a 3.733 GPA. She was also named a Wooden Citizenship Cup Finalist in December for her community work with Team Impact in their fellowship program.

Slam Dunk and Three-Point Bragging Rights

The winners of the Men's and Women's 3-Point Championships will then compete in the Battle of the Champions.

Since the event's inception, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships before moving on to the professional ranks. They include Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Odyssey Sims, Tiffany Hayes, Tiffany Mitchell, and Ariel Atkins.
