WPCUR

October 1, 2015

In keeping with the College's call of raising the academic profile, this past Saturday the Department of Psychology hosted the 45th Annual Western Psychology Conference for Undergraduate Research (WPCUR). This year's invited speaker was Dr. Matthew Walker, UC Berkeley, who delivered a talk entitled "Why We Sleep." The Department has hosted this event for the past decade and this year brought undergraduate psychology researchers from as far north as Gonzaga University and as far south as Fresno.

This year our own Veronica R. Gonzales (2015) shared top honors as best presentation. Her work was entitled "Do labels matter? Terminology for the LGBT community and sexual prejudice." The judges were effusive in their praise of Ms. Gonzalez' research and presentation. Her work was sponsored by a small grant from the School of Science.

The Department would like to thank Vice Provost Richard Carp, Dean Roy Wensley, the Office of Faculty Development, Ms. Linda Busbee, and officers of PSI CHI and the Psychology Club for their assistance with this year's conference and those past.
