Writing SMART Goals

The SMART goal-setting method is one of the most popular and effective tools for creating realistic and achievable goals. SMART is an acronym that stands for five qualities your goals should have. They should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Whatever your role, fine-tuning your skills at creating SMART goals can improve your chances of success. As a program participant you will:

  • Clarify what the five SMART characteristics really mean
  • Practice creating at least one SMART goal that you plan to achieve this academic/fiscal year
  • Learn practical tips to assist you with SMART goal-setting
