Creating/Updating Employee PSDs: Overview for Supervisors

As a supervisor, you may need to draft a Position Source Document (PSD) for a new job or work with your staff members on updating their existing PSDs. This brief workshop will review the process involved in writing or revising a PSD, explain the criteria for assigning non-exempt or exempt status, and describe circumstances that may warrant a grade and/or salary re-evaluation for a particular position. Attendees will receive handouts on PSD writing guidelines and other tips. During the program, participants will:

  • Recognize the purpose of the PSD
  • Review the general process for creating/revising a PSD
  • Understand factors that determine non-exempt and exempt status
