Graduate/Professional Independent Study Petition

This petition is to be filed with the Office of the Registrar no later than:

  • The Friday of the second week of the term for B.A. Leadership and Organizational Studies, M.F.A., M.A. Leadership, M.A. Kinesiology, and KSOE.
  • 5 days from the start of the term for Graduate Business

Doctoral and Graduate and Professional students may arrange with individual instructors to undertake independent study courses. This petition must be completed and approved by the instructor, Department Chair/Graduate Chairperson, Dean and Registrar.

The College offers the following kinds of independent studies:

Doctorate Independent Study - 699 A doctoral level course not available in the regular curriculum, developed by the student and Faculty.

Graduate Independent Study - 399: A graduate level course not available in the regular curriculum, developed by the student and Faculty (ie: COUN-399-01) or 97: A graduate course regularly offered by a master's degree program taken independently with Faculty (ie: SPED-292-97).

Professional Independent Study - 199: An undergraduate level course not available in the regular curriculum, developed by the student and Faculty (ie: LDSH-199-02) or 97: An undergraduate course regularly offered by a professional degree program taken independently with Faculty (ie: LDSH-104-97)

MFA Dance Independent Study - 397: A graduate independent study not available in the regular MFA Dance curriculum, developed by the student and Faculty.

You will receive academic credit for this course. The business office will charge accordingly.

If this is a regular course in our catalog, independently arranged, list the Course Numbe (ie: SPED-322-97)
(ie: 1 unit, 3 units, 11 units, etc.)
(i.e. Describe the educational project, including academic goals and learning outcome). Please limit to 800 characters.
(i.e. Strategic, systematic approach to be used in addressing the course content). Please limit to 800 characters.
(List educational materials such as books, journals, and internet sources, minimum 3). Please limit to 800 characters
(e.g. Weekly written assignments, journal and final examination). Please limit to 800 characters.

Note: All Independent Study petitions must be approved by the Instructor, by the Department Chair or Dean, and by the Registrar's Office. The Registrar's office will forward your request to the instructor and chair for approval. You will receive an e-mail once the internship has been approved or denied. This process may take one to two weeks for completion.
