How to Apply for Nursing

First-year students should apply using the Common App for either our Early Action deadline of November 1st, or our Regular Decision deadline of January 15th.

First-year students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing should indicate Public Health as an academic program of interest to ensure they successfully complete all required courses for the nursing program.

Admitted first-year students will follow the Public Health program curriculum, and apply directly to the Nursing program during the Fall of their second year. They will be begin the Nursing Program in Fall of their third year. For more information about this process, visit the Current SMC Student Nursing Admissions Webpage.

Timeline

Students who are admitted to Saint Mary’s College as first-year students should indicate interest in nursing on their Pre-Enrollment Questionnaire and declare Public Health (aligned first 2 year curriculum) in their first year. Upon completion of all Nursing and Saint Mary’s Core Curriculum prerequisites and successful acceptance to nursing, most students will begin the Nursing Curriculum in their 3rd year.  It is permissible for students to apply for the program with some program prerequisites in progress or scheduled to complete prior to the program start.

Get admitted to SMC!

Take SMC Core Curriculum and Nursing Prerequisites.

Get Involved (Nursing club, Complete Basic LIfe Support Training, Volunteer for Direct Care Experience)

Attend Brown Bag Nursing Interest Sessions

Complete SMC Corse Curriculum and Nursing Prerequisites

Attend Brown Bag Nursing Interest Groups

Take the TEAS exam

Apply to and interview for nursing program admission

Upon program admission complete clinical readiness documentation. 

Start Nursing Courses and Clinicals.

If Spring admit, complete a minor or take affiliated courses, get internship.

Complete nursing program

Pass the NCLEX board certification exam

Start your nursing career!
