Senior Theatre Capstones: THE MOORS
Bianca Langlois and Nox Lassett-Egbert, '27
Theatre Capstone Projects have taken many shapes and are known for adapting to the students who are in the class. Some students may remember the capstone projects Lights Up: Artists to Action or Take.Up.Space. from recent years. This year, all of the capstone projects are tied to the Theater Program’s mainstage productions, allowing students to take on leadership roles on the shows. For The Moors, written by Jen Silverman and directed by Javier Hurtado, there are two capstone projects attached. Bianca Langlois (she/her) will act as Assistant Director, Sound Designer, and Fight and Intimacy Captain and Nox Lassett- Egbert (they/them) will work as the Lighting Designer for their respective projects.
Bianca is a fourth-year Performance Theatre and Media Production double major. She has been involved with the Theatre Program for her entire time at Saint Mary’s. You may recognize her from her roles as Theo in Pippin in Spring 2026 or as Egeus/Fairy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Fall 2023. What you should also know Bianca for is her sound design for The Late Wedding in Fall 2025 and direction of a one act staged reading as part of the Spring 2025 capstone show Take.Up.Space. Bianca has worn many hats over the years, but is very excited to take on the challenge of assistant directing. When speaking to Bianca about what it means to be a part of The Moors, she said, “I’m deeply excited to be in this new role where I am able to learn hands-on in the rehearsal room every day and be inspired by such great actors, creatives, and directors, such as the fantastic Dr. Javier Luis Hurtado. Being entrusted with important roles such as these makes me feel ready to step into the Bay Area theatre scene as a professional. Coming in every day reminds me of the importance of theater, the things it teaches us, and how much I love the path I have chosen.” As Bianca states, this is truly a culmination of all the work she has done at Saint Mary’s, and it is the final step in preparing her to work in professional theatre after graduation.
Nox is a fourth-year Technical Theatre and Design major. They have also been very involved in the Theatre Program for the entire time they have been at Saint Mary’s. You will never catch them onstage, unless it's to move a set piece, but you might recognize their name from their time working in stage management. In recent years, they acted as Assistant Stage Manager for The Excavation of Mary Anning in Fall 2024 and Co- Stage Manager for The Late Wedding in Fall 2025. They are excited to take on the role of Lighting Designer, though, as that is their true passion. In talks about their capstone project, Nox said, “It's an honor for my peers and mentors to believe in and trust me with such a big part of the production.” Again, this is the final part of four years of education at Saint Mary’s and is truly the final piece to help prepare Nox for the professional theatre world.
The Moors is lucky to have two dedicated students completing their Theatre Capstone Projects as part of the production. Make sure to come see the entire team’s work when The Moors opens on October 28th and keep an eye out for more about other students' capstone projects as the year goes on!
