John F. Henning Institute

The John F. Henning Institute is inspired by the life and work of John F. Henning, a Saint Mary's College graduate and former U.S. Undersecretary of Labor who also served for 26 years as the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.

The Henning Institute is a center for the study of Catholic Social Thought, with special emphasis on the question of human work and its centrality to the common good. The Institute hosts academic conferences, lectures, seminars, and reading groups that are open to the College and wider community, and publishes on Catholic Social Thought. In addition, the Institute places students in paid internships with Labor Councils and Unions, providing formation in Catholic Social Thought for those students during their internships.
