Join SMC's Creative Writing Department in Hagerty Lounge for a Craft Conversation with visiting writer Shelley Wong, award-winning poet and author of As She Appears, longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award and winner of a 2023 Lambda Literary Award.
During these one-hour conversations, authors provide an inspiring deep dive into one facet of the craft of writing, followed by a Q&A session in which audience members can ask about the writer's work and life. This event is free, open to the public, and ADA Accessible. Light refreshments will be served!
Shelley Wong is the author of As She Appears (YesYes Books), winner of a 2023 Lambda Literary Award and longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, she is queer and fourth-generation Chinese American. She holds an MFA from the Ohio State University and a BA from UC Berkeley. Her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry, Kenyon Review, New England Review, and The New Republic.
She is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize and has taught creative writing at the Ohio State University and led workshops for Piper Center for Creative Writing at Arizona State University, St. Louis Poetry Center, Asian Pacific Islander Equality Northern California, The Ruby, and University of California at San Francisco.
