About

You're invited to join Saint Mary's Creative Writing Department for a fiction reading and on-stage conversation with writer Tomas Moniz happening on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026 from 2:30-3:30 pm in the beautiful LeFevre Theater on the Saint Mary’s College campus.

Tomas Moniz's last novel, All Friends Are Necessary, won the 2024 Golden Poppy Award, and their debut novel, Big Familia, was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Debut Novel 2020 Award.

The story is about a 30-something Latinx bisexual man who is putting his life back together after his first baby is stillborn and his marriage falls apart. Publishers Weekly calls it bighearted, thoughtful, a novel that “demonstrates the reparative power of friendship, and how it can even transcend the bonds of love.”

Visiting Writer events at Saint Mary's are free, open to the public, and ADA Accessible. Visitor parking is available on campus and light refreshments will be served. All attendees are eligible for a fee waiver for the MFA in Creative Writing application—please reach out to Collin Skeen, Assistant Director of Admissions, at cas38@stmarys-ca.edu for more information.
