About
Do contemplation, prayer, and meditation matter in a world that demands action—a world in which basic human rights are always at stake? Can introspection strengthen political commitment, as Merton claims? Will rethinking our notions of Self and Divine contribute to societal justice and peace? A faculty theologian will introduce Merton’s remarkable life as a Trappist monk, poet, and social activist, then invite conversation on the provocative questions raised by his essay.
