About
Join SMC's Creative Writing Department in a special off-site event at the Prelinger Library in San Francisco for a Craft Talk with visiting writer Alexis Madrigal, co-host of KQED’s show Forum and author of The Pacific Circuit.
Alexis Madrigal's The Pacific Circuit is an incisive exploration of Oakland’s storied past as home to longshoremen, Black Panthers, and the blues. At the storied Prelinger Library, which is a "serendipity" library in San Francisco, a library that emphasizes the experience of browsing and discovering things that were formerly unknown, Alexis Madrigal will talk about the role of the artist in the archive, the untold histories buried in archives, and how archival research transformed his process in writing The Pacific Circuit.
This community teach-in is open to artists, historians, the general public, and all archive enthusiasts.
Visiting Writer events at Saint Mary's are free, open to the public, and ADA Accessible. All attendees are eligible for a fee waiver for the MFA in Creative Writing application—please reach out to Collin Skeen, Assistant Director of Admissions, at cas38@stmarys-ca.edu for more information.
