In his controversial experiment, Milgram measured how much pain one college student was willing to cause another on orders from an authority figure. The pandemic underlined the ongoing relevance of Milgram’s research question: why do some readily obey authority while others do not? This interactive program will examine the study’s design, results, and conclusions; offer tools for interpreting quantitative data in Seminar texts; and consider how empirical research can illuminate political issues.
