About
Hospitality offered to travelers and strangers has long been understood as a universal test of humanity--and reverence toward the divine.
Drawing on the Rule of Saint Benedict, this lecture explores monastic traditions of welcoming guests weary from the road, and reflects on readings composed to greet travelers and invite conversation upon their arrival at monastic guest houses.
"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me."
(Matthew 25:35)
