Mass of the Holy Spirit

In keeping with a long tradition dating from the founding of European universities during the Middle Ages, Saint Mary's College celebrates the Mass of the Holy Spirit. All are encouraged to join in this special liturgy to bless our entire community at the beginning of another academic year together. Grounded in our Lasallian Core Principles, especially our theme of "Inclusive Community," this is a liturgy invoking the Holy Spirit to guide our learning and living throughout the academic year.

There will be an academic procession (please be on the lookout for an email regarding regalia) and an additional procession including staff members and students from a variety of clubs, organizations, teams, programs & departments, wearing a t-shirt/sweatshirt representing their group, and carrying some sort of small object that represents their department, club, team, etc. The idea is that we are blessing not only the academic endeavors in the classroom, but in the many different spaces that students, staff, and faculty can find meaning, belonging, support, learning, and places of care on campus. The objects carried in would remain up front during the Mass, representing our SMC community (to be retrieved following the Mass). Sign up on this spreadsheet to participate!
