Professional Overview


Vera Chang combines community-engaged scholarship, activism, and investigative photojournalism covering food, environmental justice, and corporate accountability. Her writing has been published in The GuardianFood & WineBitchJapan Agricultural News, and elsewhere. She has contributed photographs to Mother JonesForbesTIME, and Civil Eats’ James Beard award-winning investigative series. While a doctoral student at the University of California Berkeley’s Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Department, Vera was honored to be a National Science Foundation Fellow, an Institute for Research on Labor and Employment Dissertation Fellow, and a Clif Bar Family Foundation Fellow. Vera previously worked as a fellow at a national sustainability-oriented foodservice company and oversaw marketing at a 1,400-acre educational farm in Vermont. Vera is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Justice and Sustainability at Saint Mary’s College of California, teaching photojournalism and environmental studies.
