Professional Overview

I am an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Saint Mary’s College of California. Previously, I served as an Instructor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Zimbabwe and earned my PhD in Biophysical Chemistry from Marquette University. I completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan Medical School and later worked as a Senior Lecturer of Chemistry at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe.

My teaching and research interests focus on biochemistry and human health. Specifically, I study genetic variants of mitochondrial ALDH2, including the ALDH2*2 (E504K) variant that underlies alcohol flushing in East Asian and non-East Asian populations. In addition, I investigate genetic variants of the ubiquitous microsomal cytochrome P450 (CYP) system, particularly the  drug-metabolizing enzymes such as CYP2C19, and their interactions with microsomal cytochrome P450 reductase.
