About

Jen Silverman's THE MOORS, directed by Dr. Javier Luis Hurtado, will perform in LeFevre Theatre Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2026.

Please fill out this Google Form to tell a bit about yourself and your experience, and then use this SignUp Genius form to sign up for an audition slot.

You are encouraged to come to our Theatre Open House on Tues., Sept. 1, at 5:30pm in LeFevre Theatre to meet new and returning students with an interest in Theatre. Free dessert will be provided. The director of the fall play will be there to answer questions and explain his vision of our production of THE MOORS.

All students are welcome to audition Sept. 2 or 3, including first years, transfer students, graduate students, beginners, etc. No experience necessary.

We practice race-, gender-, and ability-conscious casting.

Auditions will take place in LeFevre Theatre on the stage on Wed., Sept. 2, and Thurs., Sept. 3, between 6 and 9pm (you will choose an audition slot during that time period). Callbacks (invitation only) are planned for Fri., Sept. 4, 2:00-4:00pm.

REQUIRED:
1 dramatic or comedic contemporary monologue without accents.
No longer than 90 seconds.
"Contemporary" can be anything from a play between 1990 and 2026.

OPTIONAL:
There are two singing roles. One that requires guitar playing and one that does not. Please be prepared to sing the verse and chorus to any ballad or lullaby to be considered for either of these roles.

If you can sing and play guitar, please do so. If you can accompany yourself on the guitar, great! If not, you may sing a capella and then play 30 seconds of any song of your choice on the guitar.

Rehearsals will be Mondays-Fridays 6-9pm, though everyone will not be called during that whole time period and everyone will not be called for every rehearsal day. You will be given an option to state your conflicts or times when you are not available.

To prepare for the audition, you can read the attached script. Click on the red box at the top of this web page.

The tentative rehearsal schedule is here.

Jen Silverman's The Moors is a dark, surreal comedy that brilliantly subverts classic 19th-century Gothic literature—particularly the works of the Brontë sisters. It explores themes of loneliness, power, and visibility through a bizarre, sometimes violent, but darkly hilarious lens. Performances will be Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
